Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Wife Sonam Raghuvanshi Arrested for Husband’s Killing With Lover

In a shocking twist to what initially appeared as a missing persons case, Meghalaya Police have arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi for orchestrating the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The 24-year-old woman allegedly planned the killing with her lover and hired contract killers to eliminate her newlywed husband.

The Tragic Timeline

Raja Raghuvanshi, a 26-year-old transport businessman from Indore, and his wife Sonam were married in an arranged wedding on May 11, 2025. They had planned to tour Kashmir but changed their honeymoon plans to Meghalaya and checked into a hotel in Shillong on May 22.

Raja Raghuvanshi was found dead in a deep gorge near the Weisawdong waterfalls in Sohra (Cherrapunji), Meghalaya, on June 2. Sonam and Raja departed for Meghalaya on May 20 and were reported missing by May 23.

The Murder Plot Uncovered

Sonam Raghuvanshi has been arrested in connection with the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Autopsy reports indicate fatal head injuries, and missing valuables suggest foul play.

According to police investigations, Sonam may have orchestrated her husband’s murder, possibly with help from hired killers and a suspected former lover, Raj Khushwaha. The conspiracy involved multiple accomplices working across different states to execute the plan.

Key Accomplices and Arrests

A court in Madhya Pradesh granted seven days’ transit remand of three accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case to the Shillong Police on Monday. The three accused- Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Raj Singh Kushwaha will now be taken to Shillong for further investigation.

Kushwaha, who worked in the billing department of Sonam’s family-run plywood business, did not travel with the couple but allegedly coordinated the murder from Indore. This connection suggests the plot was premeditated and professionally organized.

Sonam’s Claims vs Police Evidence

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the Indore woman arrested in connection with the murder of her husband Raja during honeymoon in Meghalaya, will be taken to the crime site today. She has claimed to police that she was drugged and kidnapped, but investigators have dismissed these claims as a “poor plan” to deflect suspicion.

The dramatic reappearance of Sonam in Ghazipur, over 1,200 kilometers away from the crime scene, nearly three weeks after her husband’s murder, has raised serious questions about her involvement.

The Investigation Continues

Five arrests have resulted from a multi-state probe in a crime so professionally organised. The case has shocked the nation due to its calculated nature and the betrayal of marital trust just days after the wedding.

Police are continuing their investigation, with Sonam and the other accused being transported to Shillong for further questioning and reconstruction of the crime scene.

A Marriage Turned Deadly

What began as a honeymoon trip to one of India’s most beautiful destinations has turned into one of the most shocking murder cases of 2025. The Meghalaya honeymoon murder case highlights the dark reality of how quickly love can turn to betrayal, with devastating consequences.

The case continues to unfold as authorities piece together the full extent of the conspiracy that led to Raja Raghuvanshi’s tragic death during what should have been the happiest time of his life.
